Frequently asked questions

What is Squire?
A PDF workbench. You organise documents into projects, run operations such as merge, split, rotate, delete pages and compress on a workspace bench, and keep the finished files as results that remember how they were made.
Where are my files stored?
In your browser, on your device. Documents are processed with your browser's own engine and saved in its local storage (IndexedDB). They are never uploaded to our servers, which also means we cannot recover them if you clear your browser data or lose the device.
What is the difference between a project, the workspace and results?
A project is a folder for one piece of work. The workspace is a bench of working copies: every operation takes the items you selected and produces a new item, so nothing you started from changes. Marking an item complete moves it to results, where it keeps its history and can be previewed, renamed and downloaded.
How do I undo something?
You do not need to. Operations never change their inputs, so the earlier item is still on the bench. Remove the item you do not want.
How do I delete my data?
Documents: remove them in the app, delete the project, or clear the site data in your browser. Account: open your account menu in the app and choose Manage account, or email us and we will delete it within 30 days.
What does it cost?
Squire is free during early access: operations are unlimited and the free plan includes 20 finished results per calendar month (UTC). Paid plans with fill and sign, conversions and higher limits are coming; prices will be shown before you subscribe.
How is this different from Paperex?
Paperex is the free edition: the same core tools, no account, no telemetry, everything on your device. Squire adds projects, the workspace bench, results, compression and an account, and collects anonymous usage data to improve the product.
Something broke. What should I send you?
What you were doing, which tool, roughly how big the file was and your browser. Do not send the document itself unless you are comfortable sharing it; we never need it to look into most issues.
